Hello everyone! I am currently pursuing my graduate degree in counselor education. My hope in the future is to serve children and families, especially those who are in the military community. This website is developed to increase our understanding of the risk factors associated to being a child of military members.
Resilience and its effect on our overall well-being piqued my interest as I observed and learned how children from different walks of life (i.e., foster children and children of military members) respond to stressors and trauma. Some children were able to overcome adversities without developing mental health problems and seemed to be successful, whereas others suffered from a host of psychological problems and psychosomatic complaints. I believe that recognizing the resilience factors can help educators, mental health professionals, and parents foster resilience development among military children.
The strategies provided came from Trauma-Focused CBT, American Psychological Association online resources, Preventing Anxiety and Depression in Youth (PANDY) Program, and the Pennsylvania Resiliency Program. I hope that you will also utilize the discussion board section to share techniques and strategies to improve the mental health of our youth population.
Thank you for visiting my site. If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Catherine Margetiak
